Neighborhood boundaries: The legal boundaries of the Crossroads Arts District are Truman Road [Downtown Loop] on the north, the Kansas City Terminal railroad tracks on the south, Troost Avenue on the east and 1-35 on the west.

Mission: The mission of the Crossroads Community Association shall be to support, promote, advance, and encourage the revitalization of the community as a thriving, safe and attractive center of art, history, enterprise, commerce, culture, residence, entertainment, education and other activity; to inform and educate the members of this association and the public about community issues; to provide a forum to address community objectives and issues; to build a strong community through communication, cooperation, planning and leadership; to build a strong partnership between business owners, property owners, tenants and residents to ensure community involvement; and to enhance the quality of life within the community.

Established: The Crossroads Community Association was formed in 2001 by property owners fighting blight and crime in what was a forgotten stretch between Downtown and Crown Center. The CCA has grown to represent residents and business owners in a unique “big tent” organization, all the while maintaining an organic approach for neighborhood development

The CCA Board meets via conference call the third Tuesday of every month at 12PM. The CCA Infrastructure Committee meets the third Monday of every month at 12PM. The CCA hosts Quarterly ‘Meet + Greet’ evening events for members and guests in January, April, July and October on the second Thursday of the month.

Additional Events and Meetings: First Friday in the Crossroads Arts District – On the First Friday of every month, thousands of Kansas City residents and visitors fill the sidewalks of the Crossroads Arts District, enjoying and participating in what has become one of Kansas City’s liveliest and most popular event. From 5:00pm to 9:00pm, visitors are invited to stroll through numerous non-profit arts organizations, galleries, artist studios and a wide variety of local businesses that feature local, regional and national artists as well as live entertainment. People explore the district by foot, guided by either the Crossroads Map or Crossroads website listing of First Friday events. Visitors often stay afterwards to enjoy dinner or beverages in one of the growing number of restaurants, cafes, coffee houses, or local breweries + distilleries in the area. The First Friday tradition has continued to grow, with a monthly estimate of a few thousand to over 10,000, depending on the weather and scheduled activities.

Projects and Accomplishments: 

• The establishment and initial funding of a part-time Crossroads Security Patrol with Chesley Brown International, working now in partnership with numerous Crossroads Building Owners and Businesses to ensure the ongoing safety of the neighborhood and to provide a 24/7 hotline for ALL community members when facing a nuisance situation;
• Continued success of the highly effective CCA Clean + Safe Graffiti Removal Program;
• Keeping Crossroads Community Members consistently informed about issues of importance and impact as well as neighborhood news and events;
• The creation of the Crossroads Website, kccrossroads.org, which spotlights members and their events along with an extensive section dedicated to First Friday festivities;
• The publication and distribution of the Crossroads Map featuring Crossroads galleries, restaurants, retail and arts organizations;
• The support and promotion of the SpraySeeMo Mural Festivals and the sponsorship of local mural artists for Crossroads specific projects;
• The establishment and maintenance of dog waste stations throughout the community;
• Advocacy on behalf of the Crossroads Arts District PIEA extension, the renewal was essential in assuring continued affordable workspace for artists and;
• Continued extensive social media outreach with over 47,800 Twitter followers, 6,738 Facebook fans, and 28,100 Instagram followers along with the #kccrossroads hashtag to help promote community businesses and events.
