The BZA denies CD-SUP-2020-00021, the second defeat in a week for this special use permit request, located at 3400 Campbell in Hyde Park. Recall that this request was so the Airbnb owner could advertise 16 guests per night rather than the eight currently allowed by city code. The ruling means that the owner can continue to operate his Airbnb, but cannot have 16 guests stay.

Ordinance 200497 is held until August 5. This ordinance seeks to establish a policy limiting the use of real property tax abatement as an economic development tax incentive within the boundaries of the Kansas City Missouri, Independence, Center, Hickman Mills, Grandview, Raytown, and Lee’s Summit School Districts.

Application fee waiver was discussed. There is potential for neighborhood associations applying for funding to not have to pay an application fee, as the application fee can be cost prohibitive for smaller neighborhood groups. As it currently stands, the application is equal to one percent (1%) of the funding request, not to exceed $2,500.00. More discussion to finalize what a waiver could look like will be held at a future date.
